This week we have been writing about the Solar System, here is some of the amazing things we have been learning:
Their are eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
The Sun is a star and is the centre of our solar system.
The moon orbits Earth and reflects sunlight, it does not actually make its own light.
Also, Earth only has one moon, but other planets have much more... Mars has 2, Neptune has 14, Uranus has 27 and Jupiter has a massive 67 moons! Follow THIS link to learn more about the moons of other planets.
A day and a year are very different lengths on different planets, for example...
A day on Venus is 243 days on Earth but a day on Jupiter is only 10 hours!
A year on Neptune is 164 years on Earth but a year on Mercury is only 84 Earth days!
For more about this and to calculate how old you would be on other planets follow THIS link.
Our writing hook this week is the vertical garden we made last week during our learning about the water cycle.
We used plastic bottles, soil, and grass seed. We are hammering the bottles to a board in the garden. We have a lot more space in our vertical garden so if you have more bottles at home we would love to take them.
We have been learning about the Water Cycle in the first step of our learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. We created posters we had to label with the sequence of the water cycle as well as cycle wheels to show what each of the parts do.
